Endometriosis is characterized by the following symptoms:

• Pelvic pain
• Pain during sex
• Fertility issues
• Cyclic pain that relates to your menstrual cycle

Treatment Options for Endometriosis

The first step to treating endometriosis is diagnosing it. If you’re experiencing symptoms your physician believes may be endometriosis pain, they will do a full exam and if required schedule an ultrasound, MRI, or CT scan of the abdomen area. If it is probable, they will do a laparoscopic examination where a small incision is made in the abdomen so a camera can be deployed in the area to see what’s going on.

Depending on the severity and location of your endometriosis, treatment options can include:

• Pain relievers to reduce inflammation and swelling
• Hormone treatments or birth control pills
• Laparoscopic surgery to remove growths
• Hysterectomy if severe
